E's Mode Monday

Happy Monday, all! Let me first start by saying that Kristin and Mitch had an ABSOLUTELY AMAZING STUNNING BEAUTIFUL PERFECT AWESOME FANTASTIC GLORIOUS wedding!!! It was so good I can't even put commas in between the adjectives because I feel that they just need to all blend together. Kristin turned her venue into such a magical-fairytale-dream space... it was incredible. And her & Mitch looked HOT. I can't even WAIT til she gets some pics back to show you. You will definitely want to see her wedding unfold on the blog, as it was phenom. I'm sosoSO happy for them and was so honored to be a part of such an amazing event! She has jetted off to Traverse City with her HUSBAND, so I'm solo for our MM this week. She'll be back tomorrow though! :)

In other news, we had a spirit week last week and college, destination, and blue & white day were not very thrilling outfits to share. So, I picked my two fave outfits from the week-- one from neon day and one from sweet little Sophia May's bday party!

Wedding Wednesday: 5 Things I Forgot (That I don't want you to!)

Today is April 24th. Which means in TWO days Kristin is going to be a MRS!!! So, today, I thought I'd do a post about things I forgot to do for my wedding, so that she & all of our lovely readers will be able to avoid these issues! No matter HOW organized I thought I was (heck, I wasn't even working, you would have thought I had this down to a tee!) I still forgot a few select things. And maybe, if I was a guest at my wedding, I would have realized a few other things I had forgotten. But, these are the things that have stood out in my mind, so I'd like you to be able to be aware of the same :)

1. Flowers for my Grandmas, Mom, and Mom-in-law. This was probably the most costly thing that we forgot about. And what is funny is that we didn't even forget it really... they were in the refridgerator at our venue (which was really Brandon's parent's backyard, so their fridge!) I will tell you WHY this happened and then hopefully you can be on the lookout for it in the future. My flowers were delivered to B's parent's house early in the afternoon. It was super duper hot out so we didn't want them to die and obviously wanted them as cold as could be until they absolutely HAD to come out. When they were delivered, we were in such a commotion of getting on our limo to take pics, we just set them aside and didn't ever pull them back out. No one even said one word! So, we had these beautiful pieces put together for the special ladies in my life that no one even saw. Such a bummer!

*i wish these flowers could have told us that we totally forgot about her friends in the fridge*

My solution to avoid this: Make someone in charge of the bridal party/family (this is where Kristin & I would come in ... hint, hint!). Have them give everyone a "once over" and make sure that they check out properly. I think that everyone was just so busy and it was all family/bridal party when they were dropped off that we didn't have a person to say - HEY you're missing some flowers crazies! Not that this was even a big deal AT ALL and we laughed about it so hard the next day, but you paid for it - you'll want to use them!

2. Props for our photo booth. Now, we didn't technically "forget" these, but we did forget to set them out at first. We were very lucky to have our photo booth set up by a family friend using his own camera & camera swag. We set it up under a shaded spot in the Rosengren's bar area. It was a BLAST. However, B had made up a whole bunch of chalkboard signs for people to write on. We weren't really about hats/glasses/boas (not that they aren't our thing, we just spent way less time & money on these chalkboards! haha) so we decided it would be fun to have people write things down. And it turned out hilarious. So, thankfully, at some point in the night someone remember to set them out for us. Because, although a picture may be worth a thousand words, it is worth even more with some words!

*kp & mp with some words of wisdom for b*

*one beautiful Halsey family making their Christmas card*

*guilty*

*chalkboards are good for inside jokes*

*but really, you don't even need a chalkboard if you're super cute*

Solution: If you have the ability to do this- walk through every section of your venue before you are leaving it prior to wedding time. If this is on your wedding day, it may not be practical for you- so have a trusted friend do it! Stand in each area & think, "Ok- what would I need if I were a guest from here?" And think of what you have prepared to go with the wedding. If you notice something missing, well, hop to and get it! Chances are, if you can't think of anything, no one will even know that it is missing come wedding time. (NOTE: we also forgot to set out straws for the bar ... so really, go through EVERY section of your venue!)

3. My bow bouquet for the rehearsal. Yep, all that super hard work and I forgot the whole dang thing. I was SO bummed when I realized AFTER the fact that I didn't use the bouquet. And what is even worse is that it was IN the Rosengren house when I was walking down the aisle for the rehearsal. I mean, it would have been cute for some pics ... right?

*i remembered my pretty friends! forgot my bouquet*

Solution: Have a bridesmaid make it and then have them bring it with them to the rehearsal! That is just what I'm doing for Kristin now, since we didn't get the change to make one at the first shower. Puts some responsibility on a bridesmaid, but I know they'd be happy to do it!

4. Wedding day logistics. I'm talking who will get where when and how. It really does become a bit of debacle because you have to decide who is going to drive ... who is going to have two cars in one place ... if you're in the wedding, where will your date meet you ...is it ok to leave your car somewhere overnight ...what time do you need to be at your starting point and where/how will you get places from there .... ohhhhh and the list goes on. Guys aren't always so worried about this, so they especially need to be told where to go when.

*stressed????*

Solution: Write the WHOLE thing out. The WHOLE thing. Make a wedding day timeline and structure the heck out of it. People will make fun of you for being so organized, but when it comes down to it they will be SO grateful. If possible, have someone who can shuttle people/cars if need be. Try to plan it out the best you can and if you can help anyone, help them out! But try not to leave any time period unthought of.

5. The Marriage License!! This actually has made me laugh.... as I'm asking Brandon today if there is anything that he forgot, this was his answer! That was definitely his responsibility (I picked it up, so I passed it off to him for wedding day) and he said that he had to come back to the house to get it because he had forgotten it on wedding day! Luckily, we live very close so it was fine ...but imagine not having this! All that hard work for nothin'.

*at least he remembered the ring ...or maybe he didn't and doesn't want to admit it!*

Solution: Put your marriage license in a folder right when you get it and put that folder with your wedding stuff immediately! Have a bridesmaid or groomsman remind you that you need it. On that note, make sure you have your vows (if you've written them), your readings (if you're providing them) and anything else that you are doing during the ceremony. Run through it in your head if you think you're forgetting something!

So, naturally, you may very well forget other things. I wanted to point the ones that stuck out in my mind ...but if you've got another, leave us a comment! We'd love to hear what you forgot and how you got by!

We'll see ya on this EXTRA special FAB wedding FRIDAY!!

XO, E

Gotta get down on FRIDAY!

Happy, happy weekend, ya'll! Today I am talking about the fabulous find of THREADING. One day I was sitting in my very dear and fabulous friend - Jennifer Bland's - classroom and we were talking about how waxing rips off my skin and irritates us so badly. We had a student suggest we try threading and so that same day we ran up to the mall where the threader was. WE LOVED IT. Threading seriously takes 5 minutes and lasts for 4-5 weeks! And truthfully, it doesn't hurt -- it's just a weird feeling. And it's not expensive. And we love our little threader named Penny. That lady is magical with her thread.

So, since we have today off (!!) we went up to get threaded and I knewwww I had to post about it. No shame in my game -- I can get some unruly eyebrows. And I have such dark hair that the world knows when I haven't gotten them threaded. Sure, I could pluck, but at a point it's just too much for me to handle. So, threading it is! (For any of our male readers -- being a girl really is stressful!)

I must be really dedicated to blogging to put these pics of me on the internet, but I did want to show you a before and after pic so you can see how good it looks! (Had to put the pics through an Instagram filter first though, haha) My eyebrows in the first pic are DISGUSTING ... and then we're back to normal in the second! I also got some shots of Jen being threaded so you can see it in action. If you've been considering - I highly recommend!

 *before ... ew*

 *after ... yay!*

 *mama p getting threaded*

*threading in action*

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend. We have Kristin's bachelorette party tomorrow night so be prepared for some cute EC pics -- we're taking over the town of Royal Oak! XO, E

It's Friday, Friday, Friday!!!

Hey hey!!!  TGIF (already) Whoa, where'd the week go?????

It is my LAST Friday as a Ms. !!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)

My Fab Find of the week is another household item...but very near and dear to my heart.  Remember when I went to my grandparents' pole barn and found all those goodies?????  Well, this is another treasure that I found...  In the back corner of the attic, behind stacked boxed of books, COVERED with cob webs and dust... I found this beautiful frame!! (My Grandfather was an AMAZING portrait artist, so frames were definitely part of their collections.)

I had two metal word art pieces in my kitchen (Laugh and Love from Pier One) that I decided I wanted  to split apart.  I wanted to 'frame' the word Laugh, since laughter is such an important piece of life!!  I kept "Love" above the kitchen doorway (another extremely important piece of life's puzzle!!!)

The frame went so well with our new wine cabinet that I decided to hang "Laugh" right on the wall in our dinette and hang the frame around it :-)  It gives a pretty cool 3-dimension look....and I have a memento of my grandparents that I can look at everyday and think of them.

Hope you enjoyed our Fab Friday Finds!!!!

Have a GREAT weekend!!

Wedding Wednesday - DJ Style!

My WW post was inspired by a conversation that Kristin and I had this week (since she is NINE DAYS from her wedding!!!!!!!!!!!!!) about music. Music is such a HUGE part of the wedding and it's something that most people don't think of until the last second. I wanted to offer our wedding playlist that we put together for some suggestions to people looking for good music. Disclaimer: This is what WE thought was good. You may want to go in a totalllllllll opposite direction and that is fine! It is YOUR wedding and it's important that your music reflects you & your significant other.

Pre-ceremony:
We played a lot of Indie Rock & Acoustic music for this. I wanted about 30-40 minutes worth of music so there wasn't awkward silence. People don't realize if you're playing music, but they totally realize when you AREN'T playing music. Here are some suggestions:

Ben Howard: "Keep Your Head Up" & "Only Love"
Mat Kearney: "Undeniable" & "Hey Mama"
Matt Costa: "Behind the Moon"
The Lumineers: "Ho Hey" "Flowers in your Hair" & "Stubborn Love"
There's also lots of good music by Capital Cities, Imagine Dragons, and Of Monsters & Men

Processional:
Bridal Party: Ben Howard - "Old Pine" (We loved this song because it talked about summer and friendships and that was the perfect combo for our BP!)
Bride walking down the aisle: Meiko - "Stuck on You"   I was obsessed with this song when I heard it and KNEW it was what I had to have. It's very unique, but the message is amazing.

*i ran down the aisle so i didn't get much change to play my song...*

Post Ceremony:
After the kiss! Walking back down the aisle: Keb'Mo - "Life is Beautiful" (Our flower girl carried a chalkboard with this written on it) :)

Then ... you've gotta have some music to fill that cocktail hour! I honestly don't remember what ended up getting played because I just asked for love songs, but I did have two requests:

"Home" - Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros
"You Make My Dreams Come True" - Hall & Oates

Dinner:
We did not make our bridal party enter the tent doing anything for a laugh. I've been in weddings where I have dreaded doing this and if you don't know the person that you're going to walk in with, it's always very nerve-wracking. However, I've also been in weddings where I've cried from laughing so hard at what people do! We just had our party all walk in old-fashioned-like to the song "You Always Make me Smile" by Kyle Andrews.

*regular ole entrance*

Instead of "traditional" dinner music, we played all 90s hip-hop - quite the different direction! We listened to 90s hip-hop on Pandora radio for two solid weeks trying to put together a good non-explicit playlist. I will gladly forward that on to anyone who asks! We have a serious list of songs because we didn't know how long it would take.

Dancing:
First Dance: "You are the Best Thing" - Ray LaMontagne
Mother/Son Dance: "I Hope You Dance" - LeAnn Womack
Father/Daughter Dance: "Just the Way You Are" - Billy Joel

My only request for dancing was that there was NOOOO group dances. I only remember one person begging me to play the "Cupid Shuffle" at one point in the night and I just said it was not our style. I also wish I would have added "We Are Family" to the do-not-play list. I get the point of the song, just don't love it!

My only two requests for the dancing hour were "Shout" & "Living on a Prayer". My TOP TWO fave songs to dance to at weddings.

*b's bustin some moves here apparently*

At a point, people will forget what you're playing and just rock out. So, I hope this helps you out in SOME way! I know that music can be more overwhelming than you plan for because there is SO much to choose from, but it's SO fun to put together a list! Rock on!

Fab-u-lous Friday!

Hi ya'll! What a long, long week it has been! So thankful for Friday. :-) I have some pretty-ness to share from the Rosengren household today! It comes from the Etsy shop OldNewAgain.

This is where the obsession came with BE. I was so excited to find this gem on Etsy! It was really meant to just be the word "be" as a decoration, but since we are Brandon & Elyse and it had the heart in the middle.... well, I knewwww it had to be ours! This shop has a ton of cute words that are already designed and some that will work GREAT for weddings (like cake, love, drink). They have every letter of the alphabet. They have all different sizes and you can get anything in any color. They've also started making tons of other things, like key holders, vase holders, necklaces... it's totally worth checking out! I love their "bath" sign and I think it's something I need to get in my bathroom in the near future.

Hope everyone has a great weekend! We will see you here on Mode Monday with some great outfits!
Xo, E

Hello Oh So Fab Friday!!

Hello everyone! TGIF to ya'll!  I, too, will be sharing a household piece that I absolutely LOVE.

A few months after Mitch and I started dating, every bottle of wine that we opened together (entertaining/special occasion/just because) we wrote the date on the cork, along with a little message, and put them in a decorative vase in my kitchen.

Fabulous, giving, thoughtful, and generous besties of ours  (who's expertise really turned me onto wine) bought us, as a housewarming gift, a wall art/trivet cork holder.  Part of the gift was that THEY would pick out the corks and put the collage together for us!

**They did a FABULOUS job, didn't they????????  We absolutely love it and get SO MANY compliments on it :-)

So, sticking with the theme...Mitch and I have decided as a part of our "guest book", at the wedding, to have our guests write a little message, their name, initials, etc. on a cork (or 2 or 3) :-)

We have some of our favorite restaurants saving them for us.  A big thank you goes out to Pangaea's (TC), Chateau Chantel (TC), Fenton Hotel (Fenton), Union (Clarkston), Woodshop (Clarkston), The Laundry (Fenton), and our friend's kitchens for contributing!!  Keep 'em coming!!!!!

After the wedding, Mitch and I will compile them into a big "P" for the house.  (Example below).

Hope you all have a fabulous weekend!  Check us out on Moday to read about our our modes from last week....

Let's Talk Wedding Color!

When you're thinking wedding colors, I bet you're thinking "Are they REALLY that important?" Now, while my husband will probably tell you no ... I am here to steer you in the right direction and tell you, "YES! TOTALLY! DEFINITELY! PICK YOUR COLORS FIRST!" No, but seriously. Pick your colors first.

Having a focus to your wedding with color will help guide the rest of your decisions decoration-wise. My color pallet for my wedding was coral, mint, and gray. I promise you I picked these colors before they got trendy. Or maybe now I just think they're trendy because I'm obsessed with them and find everything I can in those colors and buy it. I used a "Real Simple" bridal magazine that was given to me by my rockin' friend Casey (which has now been passed onto Kristin!) to find my palette. Fortunately, there are now whole websites dedicated to wedding colors, as well as Pinterest boards galore. The Perfect Palette has the best Pinterest boards and website that can help you decide what direction you want to go in for color. I actually still follow her on Pinterest to get color palettes for my house or for other events I'm thinking of throwing. You never know when you need a good color palette!

So, anyways- why did I chose coral, mint & gray? I knew I wanted something soft/light for the summer. I knew I wanted casualness for the backyard. I am obsessed with coral, so I knew that had to get in there somehow. I actually had looked at bridesmaid dresses and loved the gray from J.Crew. The mint came from looking at different colors matched together with coral & gray, as well as picking through bridal bouquets in magazines. After picking up paint swatches, pairing things together, I knew I had hit the jackpot with my colors.

*i also had to find out if they had cupcakes that matched my colors. once i found out there was mint, i was sold*

*makes it easy to decide what color flip flops to buy when you've got colors to stick to!*

Now, why is it important to pick a color palette? You need a focus. You don't necessarily need three colors. You can have as many, or as little, as you'd like. But everyone will ask you (mostly the florist) what colors are we working with? Knowing that I had my color choices helped my florist narrow down the flower choices. It helped me when decided what the guys and gals would wear. It helped our graphic designer figure out what our invitations would look like. It just gives you that focus and helps you tie everything together.

*stunning looking wedding party, right? our colors were very subtle, but important in keeping our focus! these people also help a ton in making them look dannnng good*

At some point in your wedding planning you get worried about being overwhelmed with color, or not having enough color. I remember my mom asking me at one point, "Now whereeeee exactly is this mint going to fit in?" Aka: What are you thiiiiinking, Elyse?! But I knew that even if it showed up a little in my bouquet, on the guy's ties and Brandon's socks, then that was good enough for me. You will be pleasently surprised at how it turns out when it's all said & done. You can't have too little color, you can't have too much, but you have to have something. Even if that something is white! I think for my next big event I'd like a pink & gold palette. (I'd also like that event to be a surprise 30th birthday party that Brandon will plan for me... but that's another story!) Something just crazy, bright, and sparkly. Go big with your color. Go bold. Go crazy. Have fun! Email us if you are having color questions...we'd love to help! Xo, E

*i started painting everything i could mint, for fear that there wasn't enough mint. it helped that this was the color we wanted to paint our bedroom, but it looked horrible in a bedroom. cute for a wedding, though!*

*we also themed our wedding around "BE" - aka BrandonElyse. how lucky were we that our initials spelled a word! we may have played it out... i'm actually still kind of obsessed with it*

Hi everyone!  Kristin here :-)

Elyse's wedding was as amazing as it looks!!!  Everything was PERFECT!!!

Elyse is absolutely correct!  Picking your colors should be one of the first decisions you tackle!!  BUT...it is not an easy feat...especially for people like me who can barely decide on what they want to eat for lunch! Ha!

I did have a good starting point though...I am obsessed with "Tiffany Blue".  I had always thought that if I were to get married in the winter months, I would do Tiff Blue with red.  I never thought about a spring or summer wedding (for some odd reason).   I started looking through magazines and websites like Elyse mentioned, but nothing was tickling my fancy.  Not to mention that there are A MILLION shades of "Tiff" blue!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (some aliases  (but not "it")are : sea foam, Robin egg, ocean breeze, tropical waters, etc. so watch out).  I carried around one of my Tiffany earring bags in my purse like it was my set of keys for (what seemed to be) forever!

I love love love pink so that was the "hue" I thought I would go for, but everything looked too baby showerish....and Mitch was not a huge fan of the idea of fuchsia :-)  THEN one day I fell in love with a color (I don't remember the defining moment).....a peachy/blush pink!!!!  Ever since then I have been obsessed (like Elyse mentioned)...it must be a mental thing cuz now my closet has WAY more peachy pink and Tiffany than ever before!  Ha! :-)  BUT again....they are A MILLION shades of pink...

So, I guess my advice (to make things easier on you) is to pick a color that does not have A MILLION different shades!! :-)

THEN the task was the dresses for my lovely ladies...I knew I wanted them to wear Tiff Blue color shoes (sorry about THAT debacle girls...) so the search was on.  Well, I didn't want them to look like Easter eggs walking down the isle, so I decided (with lots of help) on cappuccino.  SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy with the color palate!!!  So, the FINAL decision was Tiffany Blue, Peachy/blush pink and cappuccino!!!  It felt amazing to check that off "the list".

***My wedding shoes!!!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!  From makemechic.com!!
So until the big day, I only have a sneak peek of some of the colors together...So tune back in in SIXTEEN days-AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH to check out how I incorporated them all together!!!!  Sorry, I do not have a swatch of the cappuccino...I cannot find it in "the binder".

Instead, I thought I'd show you some cute pieces that I've picked up lately, with all intention to wear in the very near future. So...check it out!
